Reconnections with historic Blackfoot shirts

In spring 2010, the Pitt Rivers Museum at the University of Oxford loaned five Blackfoot shirts (collected in 1841) for exhibition at the Glenbow Museum, Calgary and the Galt Museum, Lethbridge. These important items of Blackfoot heritage bring together cultural, historical, and artistic knowledge. This site provides further information about the shirts, as well as images of the shirts and of closeup details of construction and decoration. The site is intended to support researchers, teachers and students who wish to learn from the shirts.

The project brings together staff at the Pitt Rivers Museum and the Department of Anthropology at the University of Aberdeen with Blackfoot communities in Canada and the USA.
