A portrait of a Luo woman (possibly identified as Lenya) from Gangu village, wearing a beadwork headdress (ligisa). The ligisa headdress is open at the top, made of vegetable fibre and sticks, and decorated with glass beads (tigo). She is also smoking tobacco using a long stem (ondhuru) connected to a clay pipebowl (kwesi). Her forehead is also decorated with scarification spots (ngo'l) in horizontal parallel lines (see also 1998.349.113). Behind her is a plantation of a type of sorghum (bel) showing their grain heads and probably ready for harvesting. [Gilbert Oteyo 9/9/2004]
