Description

Lake Kanyaboli is a well known lake in Luo land and is mainly in Alego Location, as well as Sakwa and Yimbo Locations. The lake is a swamp lake formed by water from the River Yala. This river starts in the Western Kenya highlands and runs through most of Siaya District of Nyanza Province before emptying into a swamp also called Yala Swamp. The water tends to seep through the swamp into this lake which does not therefore allow the River Yala to actually drain into Lake Victoria. [Gilbert Oteyo 9/9/2004]
