A group of boys and girls (described as children of Ezekiel Onyango, the Chief at Kadimo) gathered around a granary (dero). Kadimo is a clan and a village in Yimbo Location. The village children are all grouped in this homestead for this photo and it is difficult to tell whether they are all really the chief's children. The children's clothes are simple and in some cases have elements of traditional Luo dress. Three naked young boys wear a sort of string belt around their waist. Such belts may be made of skin or rope and may contain a charm strapped to them to protect the child whilst growing. The belts also help strap loin cloths or strips hanging down the front (omethe) as a cover to the maturing boys (see the one to the extreme left). [Gilbert Oteyo 9/9/2004]
