Description

Man playing an eight-stringed musical instrument (nyatiti). He is wearing a feather headdress (kondo udo, ostrich feathers) stuck on a plaited mat hat and has a wrap of stringed metal jingles (gara) on his right leg. He has a metal toe ring (oduong'o) to hit the wooden harp bar for a particular musical sound to be made. On the finger is worn another metal ring (tere) which may be just a personal body ornament. He is seated in front of a grass thatch house with some banana plants and a thick homestead fence in the background. [Gilbert Oteyo 9/9/2004]
