An entrance or gate to a homestead and kraal (rangach). The entrance is made of a pair of standing wooden posts on both sides of which a number of horizontal posts are piled upwards when the entrance or gate is closed in the evening. The homestead is seen here heavily fenced by trees, probably euphorbia and the cattle kraal is usually in the middle of the homestead. Evans-Pritchard seems to have taken this photograph from inside the cattle pen as the ground looks very trampled and there is a peg on the ground for tethering the cows. [Gilbert Oteyo 9/9/2004]
