Edward Evan Evans-Pritchard
A portrait of a Luo woman (identified as Mudiana) with razor-cut skin decoration (ngol) on the face and arms, standing beside the car used to transport Evans-Pritchard on his tour around Luo country. These marks were purely for decoration. She is also wearing a bead necklace (tik ng'ut) and a finger ring (tere). The over-wrap clothing here was popular with Luo women unlike men who did not favour it. Such over-wrap in men is usually found with the highland Bantu and Kalenjin. [Gilbert Oteyo 9/9/2004]
