Description

A full length portrait of an elder Luo standing with others, smoking a long-stemmed tobacco pipe (kwesi), wearing a long robe (kandho) with a white jacket over the top. Although he is wearing a European hat he has a warthog or wild pig tusk (lak mbeche) decorating it, adding a distinctive Luo accent to the hat. He also has a fly whisk (orengo) and finger ring (tere or perhaps oduong'o) on his left hand, and bead earrings (ngaga) on both ears [Gilbert Oteyo 9/9/2004]
