Edward Evan Evans-Pritchard
A group of important men from Asembo bay. Their way of dressing shows their dignity, wealth and status. Almost all are dressed in long white robes (kandho or kanzu) and with either a coat or an overcoat on top of it. One has a respect sword, two are smoking tobacco pipes (kwesi), two are wearing beadwork headdresses (ogut tigo) while others are wearing new Western hats. One man is also adorned with a hippo tusk (lak rawo) or warthog tusk (lak mbeche) attached to to his hat (ogudu). All these items were very expensive to buy in 1936. [Gilbert Oteyo 9/9/2004]
