Description

Men from Kogelo clan driving cattle to a funeral ceremony somewhere in Alego Location. In particular they are driving bulls, which is significant since it is often only bulls that are driven to a funeral as part of mourning. The three men are all dressed in their ceremonial gear. The front man in long robe (kanzu or kandho), a western type hat (ogudu) and a walking stick (luth). He is evidently a wealthy elder who can afford relatively expensive items of European style clothing. The second man is wearing a cowry shell headdress (ogut gagi) from which protrudes upwards a short pole on which is tied a plume of animal hair. [Gilbert Oteyo 9/9/2004]
