Charles William Hobley
A group portrait of a seated woman surrounded by young women and younger girls, and described as belonging to Kisumu clan of the Luo, captured in a humorous moment in relaxed fashion despite the posed formality of the group. Their personal adornments are simple glass bead necklaces (tik ng'ut), front aprons (olemo), string waist belt and waist beads (tik nungo) and earrings (stadi). The shaven head hair styles are very youthful and would have been a fashion in the period for young women. [Gilbert Oteyo 06/05/05]
