Charles William Hobley
A formal group portrait of young Luo men dressed as warriors with headdresses and other ornaments, some holding clubs. They are described as belonging to the Nyakach clan, which also lends its name to an administrative location. Those standing have head gears made of vegetation and animal fur. One of them (3rd right standing) has head gear of Colobus monkey tail sewn with cowrie shells. They are also adorned with armlets and and leg rings of metal (minyonge) and hide, bead necklaces (tikng'ut) and cowrie shell belts (okanda gaagi) across the chest and waist. Their waists are all wrapped in skin or hide aprons, and some of the seated men have split hippo tooth ornaments (lak rao). [Gilbert Oteyo 27/04/2005 & CM 25/04/2007]
